Tonight the Bears will wear special 1980 throwback jerseys to honor the 35th anniversary of the Calder Cup win that season. Last night the ’80 team held a reunion. Tonight, they will be honored pre-game. Below, check out the jerseys the current Bears will be sporting as they take on Hartford.

Friday night, the 1980 Hershey Bears team held a reunion to celebrate their Calder Cup championship. Members of the team, along with people who supported the team during the season were in attendance. Tomorrow night, the team will be honored at the Bears Opening Night game.

Before the 2006 Calder Cup Playoffs, Brooks Laich had a phone call with his dad. “We’re going to win the Calder Cup Championship,” he told his father. “How do you know that?” his dad responded. “You can’t run though our team four times. We are too big, too strong, too deep.”
Laich was right. That playoff run brought Hershey their first Calder Cup in nine seasons, sweeping the first two rounds of the playoffs before forcing a game seven with Portland, beating future NHL stars like Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry after an OT goal from Eric Fehr to go to the Calder Cup finals.
There are three items on a hockey jersey: a logo patch, a nameplate, and a number. The number takes us the most amount of space and is the only part of a jersey that is assigned. For some players, a number is just a form of identification on the ice. For others, they begin to build a connection with it and hopefully have theirs retired after a great career.

Saturday night Bears rookie forward Riley Barber played his first professional hockey game with Hershey. For the 21-year-old, it will be a night he won’t soon forget. Two goals on three shots, including what would be the game winner in his first AHL goal in Hershey’s 5-1 win over Springfield.
Sunday night during the FS1 broadcast of Game 3 of the ALDS between the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers, Fox Sports commentator Harold Reynolds made some comments about Canadians.

Justin Peters found himself Thursday morning in the north goal at Giant Center. As patrons of the antique auto show watched on, the 29-year-old goalkeeper went through drills with the Hershey Bears, his first time back in the AHL since a two-game conditioning stint with the Bears last season. “I’m just excited to get the season going,” said Peters. “I’m excited about starting my journey on back to the NHL.”
We are one day away from the season opener for the Hershey Bears, so we thought it would be good to give all of you guys something fun. With emojis being the latest craze in social media, we decided to get in on the fun and make some Bears emojis!

Along with the Hershey Bears opening night roster, Thursday morning the club announced forward Garrett Mitchell was named team captain. “Mitchy” will be the 43rd captain in team history, joining the ranks of guys like Boyd Kane and Bryan Helmer.

On September 30th, Hershey Bears season ticket holders were introduced to the new Giant Center scoreboard. This HD jumbotron is all bright and shiny, but needs good content to really help it pop. That’s where Great Save Productions comes in.
