A little luck never hurt anyone. St. Patrick’s Day jerseys from Saturday. Photo by Kyle Mace.

The Bears have followed up a lackluster weekend with one where they grabbed three wins and all six available points in the standings. It started with a Friday night win at home over Adirondack. Saturday brought Albany to town and another win. Then both teams traveled to Albany for the back end of the home-and-home series where the Bears picked up the final win of the weekend.

Tonight the Bears will be looking to avenge the losses in St. John’s by welcoming the Ice Caps to the Giant Center for the first time. It’s also Hersheypark pass night, so be prepared for a big crowd even though it is a Wednesday game. You can check out the pre-game from Tim Leone.

Another week closer to the playoffs and unfortunately the Bears first trip to see the Ice Caps wasn’t a good one. They played two games there last week. St. John’s dominated the first meeting, but the Bears were able to salvage a point in a shootout loss the second night.

In other news here at SHoE, Kathryn caught up with former Bear (and a fan favorite) Steve Pinizzotto. The biggest news of the week (and perhaps to date) was the announcement of the first ever Bears Viewing Party. Take a look at the announcement and if you are on facebook you can RSVP to the event on there.

Now on to the Bears news in the rest of the world…

Congratulations to the Aucoins!

February is over… finally and mercifully. As we began the month of March everyone was hoping for a turnaround with this organization. The Bears have obliged. A week ago, the Bears traveled south to Norfolk on a day that only exists one out of four years. Norfolk came away from that one with a win and two more points farther from the Bears in the standings. But that was the end of February. Bring on March! Saturday started out well with a nice win over struggling Binghamton. On Sunday the Springfield Falcons brought some former Bears back to town. The Falcons left with a loss as well. Before both of those games in the Giant Center was the host for the PIAA Basketball playoffs. With very limited time between the two events, the Giant Center staff had to change the floor back to hockey. Check out the time lapse video of how they did it. The early part of this week brought us the AHL Clear Day. On Tuesday morning the league and the Bears released their roster for the remainder of the season. Don’t forget to check out one of our favorite posts “Snapshots” to see the week in pictures.

Now on to the other news from the week…

Happy Leap Day! Hopefully the Bears can use this extra day of the year to get a much needed win over division leading Norfolk. As always, you can follow our tweets of the action on Twitter. As for what happened this week, well there isn’t much to brag about. The Bears lost to Rochester, Lake Erie, and Norfolk. They now sit in 3rd place in the East Division a full 8 points behind Norfolk. They do have one game in hand against Norfolk. Since the playoffs this year are determined by conference standings (with the 3 division leaders automatically in) we should look at the conference as well. Currently, the Bears are in 5th place. Norfolk leads the conference and the Bears are 9 points ahead of the 9th place team. There’s still a lot of hockey to be played and the Bears have room to move either way. Hopefully it’s up. Look for more about the standings and AHL Clear Day in the coming days.

Now on to this week’s highlights.

The Bears came off a 3 games in 3 nights weekend with 5 out of 6 available points. The beat Syracuse on Friday, lost in a shootout on Saturday to The Whale, and firmly beat the baby Pens at home on Sunday. We also have a new feature. Every Monday, Kyle will bring you a photo recap from the previous week. It’s called Snapshots. If you missed it, go take a look.

Braden Holtby and Joel Rechlicz each got a game with the Caps this week. Does Dale Hunter know what he’s doing? [HBHB]

Injuries in the Caps require call-ups from the Bears. Fox Sports take a look at the Caps injuries and how call-ups like Dmitry Orlov and Cody Eakin have performed. [Fox]

Jersey to be worn by the Bears this weekend for “Chocolate Covered February”

It was another eventful week here in Chocolatetown. Last Thursday we saw a trade that bid farewell to Danny Richmond (and the Richmond Factor) as well as Matt Ford. In turn, we welcomed Mike Carmen and Kevin Marshall. We also saw the AHL points leader, Keith Aucoin, get a call to Washington on the same day. The following day saw  Carmen and Marshall suit to to play in Wilkes-Barre. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a favorable result. The struggle for Hershey continued on Saturday, but Sunday the sun was shinning as the boys finally broke the baby Pens winning streak in Giant Center.

It was a so-so week in the land of the chocolate and white. The Bears traveled to Norfolk for two games before the All-Star Classic. Friday saw a continuation of their losing ways, however they made their way back into the win column on Saturday. Boyd Kane, Keith Aucoin and Chris Bourque then made their way to Atlantic City to participate in the AHL All-Star Classic. You can see highlights from the skills competition here. Unfortunately, they were all held off the scoring sheet in the game. The beginning of the week brought recall news. Cody Eakin was called up to Washington as well Joel Rechlicz.

More on the Rechlicz call up after the break…

I’d rather not talk about this past weekend, but there were 3 games. Here are recaps from Friday, Saturday and Sunday all resulting in no points. The only good things to come out of this past week was an announcement that the All-Star Classic would be on TV and the Bears continued their tradition of reading in schools.

The Bears celebrate another win. Photo by Kyle Mace.

Another week has gone by and a lot going on here at SHoE. The Bears went to Charlotte and came back with 2 wins via a 12 round shootout and comeback win. We are also making a push to get a Shorty Award. As of this writing, we are tied for 6th place with the Vancouver Canucks. Since you are reading this I’ll assume that you like us, so go vote! On Saturday, the Bears went to Binghamton and it took another amazing comeback to get a win. Finally we gathered your pictures from the Outdoor Classic and posted them for all to see.
