Just as important as Hershey’s weekend back to back wins over Syracuse, and going nine straight games where the Chocolate and White have recorded at least one point or more, has been the play of Bears rookie Riley Barber. The Pittsburgh-born Barber recorded his first pro hat trick on Saturday night in the Bears 5-1 win over Syracuse.

Barber scored the final three goals, including an empty-net tally, to lead the Bears to their second straight win over the Crunch on Saturday night. “It was a great individual effort, but the big thing was to get the win,” said Barber after the game. “We’re rolling right now. “I think every guy in here is trying to make it to the NHL,” Gomez said Friday. “I’m here to do my part, here to play hockey, here to help out as much as I can. It’s kind of what you learn; hockey from the older guys and you’re here to pass it down to the younger guys and help them out.”

The Hershey Bears announced Thursday they have signed NHL veteran Scott Gomez to a professorial tryout contract. Gomez, 36, makes his first ever appearance in the AHL after over a thousand games in the NHL. His last stint was with the St. Louis Blues in 2015-16 where be played 21 games, scoring one goal and eight points.

This signing helps fill Hershey’s gaping hole at center. Chandler Stephenson was ruled out this next weekend by Troy Mann on Sunday, and Zach Sill is still in Washington. Hershey is working with two true centers right now with Carter Camper and Travis Boyd, along with converted center Nathan Walker. “It gives [Scott] an ideal opportunity,” Bears general manager Doug Yingst said. “And it certainly gives our franchise an ideal opportunity to see him and fill out that spot.”
