Last weekend, the Hershey Bears held their annual autograph night. During the night, Bears forward Garrett Mitchell was mic’d up. Below, check out what he had to say during one of the most popular events each year.
Monday morning might be the final time some Bears players ever walk though Giant Center as a Bear. As the 2013-14 season comes to a close, the Bears players took some time to reflect on their season as they cleaned out their lockers. It was a surreal moment for all as Hershey missed the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons.
HERSHEY, PA – Jack Hillen sports a Hershey Bears jersey during warm-ups before the Bears game Sunday night against Charlotte. Hillen is on a conditioning assignment from Washington to Hershey (Kyle Mace / Sweetest Hockey on Earth)
October 3rd, 2013, Washington Capitals defenseman Jack Hillen fractures his right tibial against the Calgary Flames during Washington’s home opener. The 28-year-old Hillen has now completed two games in a Chocolate and White sweater after sitting out almost five months.
Sunday night during Hershey’s 6-3 loss to Charlotte, the d-man played alongside Tyson Strachan, finishing the night with three shots and two points. Below the jump, watch Hillen talk about his first games back since the injury and how he is feeling now.
On a cold January day, three Hershey Bears walked into Hershey’s Chocolate World for an experience they will never forget. Chay Genoway, Nate Schmidt, and Patrick Wellar enjoyed a day of chocolate, chocolate, and hairnets. The three defensemen rode the world famous Great American Chocolate Tour Ride before creating their own Hershey’s chocolate bar. Luckily, there were cameras to capture the moments of hilarity.
Patrick Wellar would design Chay Genoway’s chocolate bar wrapper, Genoway designing Nate Schmidt’s wrapper, and Schmidt designing Wellar’s.
Michael Latta throws a punch at Chris Bruton (Tim Stough / Sweetest Hockey on Earth)
Saturday night’s game between Hershey and Bridgeport was a very scrappy one for the two teams. Both Dane Byers and Michael Latta dropped the mitts late in the first period and both had pretty good bouts. Byers also laid a huge hit on Bridgeport’s Aaron Ness, sparking his scrap with Mike Halmo. Latta would have a go with Chris Bruton just a few moments after that. Below the jump, check out video of the fights from the two.
Thanks to our friends at abc27, we have a very special video to share with you this Thursday. A group of award winning photographers at abc27 followed the final game at Hersheypark Arena from when the doors opened to the last fan leaving for the last time. This is a rare view of the Arena which many have seen, but not many have captured in this form. The video only lasts 202 seconds, but the memories from that night will last a life time.
The first time Joel Rechlicz saw his “bobble fist” that will be handed out to Bears fans Saturday night, he was as giddy as a 10-year-old getting the Lego version of the Millenium Falcon on Christmas Morning. Luckily, there was a camera rolling during the ceremonial presentation to Joel of the bobble fist modeled after his likeness. We’ve looked at the giveway up close, but below the jump check out video and a gif of Recker’s reaction of him getting to see the final product himself.
HERSHEY, PA – Michael Latta throw a punch towards Darren Kramer during a fight Saturday night (Kyle Mace / Sweetest Hockey on Earth)
We’ve seen some pretty amazing fights this year from Joel Rechlicz, but Saturday night’s fight might be the front runner for the season. Late in the first period, Michael Latta would drop the mitts with Darren Kramer.
The fight was one of the fastest ones in recent memory, but Latta’s final punch took the cake. The video was so epic that we had to remix it with a Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”
HERSHEY, PA – Joel Rechlicz closes down on Pierre Leblond during their fight Saturday night (Kyle Mace / Sweetest Hockey on Earth)
With the Hershey Bears current struggles, the Chocolate and White need a spark right now, and Joel Rechlicz might have provided that to the team. Less then two minutes into the Bears’ game against Wilkes-Barre, the Penguins enforcer, Pierre Leblond, decided to take on Recker in a bout. As Bears fans know, these two have met before a few times. Below the jump, check out photos and video of the fight.
