The Washington Capitals have announced they have recalled Nate Schmidt from Hershey. The 22-year-old defenseman’s call-up is his second of the season. In 28 games this year, Schmidt has produced six points, with two goals and four assists.
In the early afternoon hours of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Washington Capitals have announced two roster moves. Philipp Grubauer has been sent to the Hershey Bears after 16 games played this season in the NHL.
We are five days into the new year, but we still have sometime to look back on 2013. Today, I took 26 of my favorite shots from the year and looked back on them. In just his first National Hockey League start of 2013-14 and second of his career, Philipp Grubauer his first career win and near shutout against the New York Rangers. The Capitals carried a 4-0 lead into the final minutes before New York broke Grubauer’s shutout bid with 1:53 left.

One day after Steven Oleksy was recalled by the Washington Capitals and signed to a three year deal, he and former Hershey, now Washington teammate Tomas Kundratek both recorded first in the Caps’ game against former Bear Chris Bourque and the Boston Bruins.

The Hershey Bears looked to conclude a perfect weekend sweep against East Division teams on Sunday with a tilt against the Syracuse Crunch. It was the fourth meeting of the season between the Bears and Crunch with Hershey looking for their first victory against Tampa Bay Lightning’s top affiliate.
World Wrestling Entertainment legend Ric Flair often infamously said, “To be the man, you have to beat the man.” Sunday evening the Bears beat the man of the Eastern Conference with a stunning 5-3 win over the top seeded Crunch.

The Hershey Bears kicked off the month of March with a trip north on I-81 to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The Bears entered play win-less in their last three consecutive matches against the W-B/S Penguins. Philipp Grubauer, fresh off his National Hockey League debut, looked on from the bench as Dany Sabourin backstopped Hershey to a nail-biting 3-2 win at Mohegan Sun Arena.
