The Hershey Bears have set a world record for their 2018 Teddy Bear Toss. The former record, held by the Calgary Hitmen, was 28,815. That has now been surpassed with a new total of 34,798.
10,046 fans helped collect the stuffed plush to bring to Giant Center on Sunday. The game was delayed about 40 minutes for clean-up of the teddy bears, thanks to Riley Barber’s first period goal. After the game restarted, Shane Gersich gave Hershey a 2-1 lead. Hershey ended up winning the game 6-3.
Sunday night, the Hershey Bears set a new team record with 25,017 stuffed animals thrown onto Giant Center ice.

Hershey Bears fans set a new franchise record with 20,662 stuffed plush tossed on the ice Sunday night at Giant Center. That bring the total for the last six year to 91,549 teddy bears. Garrett Mitchell scored the goal for the Bears with just under five minutes left in the first period.

It was a record setting night as the Hershey Bears took on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Bears fans collected 18,115 plush animals to help benefit local charities.
Bears defenseman Erik Burgdoerfer found the back of the net for the Chocolate and White, setting off the throwing of the stuffed animals. “I’ve never scored one of those before,” Bugdoerfer said. “It was good to get it out of the way in the first period.”

An annual tradition at Giant Center is the teddy bear toss. Each year Bears fans bring teddy bears to Hershey to toss on the ice after the Bears first goal. This year the Bears looked to set a new AHL record by beating their own record of 12,890 plush toys from last season.
It took only 39 seconds for Steve Oleksy to score and let the stuffed animals fly. 17,295 went flying onto the ice at Giant Center for multiple regional organizations. Due to the fact so many Bears were thrown, the whole Hershey Bears team pitched in and helped clean up the furry friends, making for some great photos.

It’s early December, so you know what that means: teddy bear toss time! This year was a record breaking one for the Chocolate and White faithful, where 9,601 fans threw 12,890 stuffed animals for the Children’s Miracle Network.
