On January 9th, we sat down with Bears rookie goaltender Ilya Samsonov and a translator. That same day he requested a number change. Since then, he’s become one of Hershey’s most valuable assets.
Why did he request that number change, how is he feeling about his first season in North America, and much more was discussed. Below is our full interview with Samsonov. Then check out our profile on the netminder.
For some local hockey fans, Thursday night provided a special treat at the Giant Food Store in Linglestown. The captain of the 1980 USA Hockey team Mike Eruzione made an appearance in association with Coca-Cola to meet fans and sign autographs in the store.
Eruzione is one of the most recognizable names in United States sports history, scoring the game-winning goal in the “Miracle on Ice” game against the Soviet Union, a moment that Sports Illustrated would be named the greatest sports moment of the 20th century.

As Lebanon native and World Series champion Derek Fisher stepped onto Giant Center ice in his customized “Fisher 21” Hershey Bears jersey, he flashed a peace sign to a loud response from Chocolate and White faithful.

Since the start of the season, the star of Riley Barber’s and Liam O’Brien’s Instagram accounts have been an Australian Labradoodle Mini named Ted.
Barber got himself the new companion at the end of June, and now the six-month-old Teddy is “quite the treat.”
I got the chance to sit down with Chris Bourque for our first edition of The Wrap Around earlier this week. Here is the extended version of our interview where we talk about his time during his nine seasons in Hershey, meeting fans, and his super awesome Montreal Expos hat.
Ten years ago tonight, the Hershey Bears won their ninth Calder Cup – a team lead by Bruce Boudreau. One of the alternate captains on that team was Graham Mink, who went on to win another Cup with the Bears in 2009.
During a Bears game in November, Mink visited Hershey and we caught up with him.
Monday afternoon the 2015-16 Hershey Bears were together for the last time, cleaning out their lockers after a disappointing end to the season. Below the jump are thoughts and reaction from Bears head coach Troy Mann, captain Garrett Mitchell, alternate captain Zach Sill, and goalie Justin Peters.

HERSHEY, PA – Steve Oleksy looks at the play during his return to Giant Center Sunday night against Hershey (Kyle Mace / Chocolate Hockey)
One year ago, Steve Oleksy scored a goal for the Hershey Bears, setting off the flight of thousands of teddy bears onto the ice at Giant Center. A year later, the 29-year-old blueliner found himself on the other side of the goal.
“Being part of [the teddy bear toss] before you kind of expect it,” Oleksy said after the game. “That shows the support Hershey gives to the Bears here. It’s a little different being on the other bench as the teddy bears rain.”

Trey Dopson of Canonsburg, PA, holds up a game puck from the Hershey Bears game on Saturday night (Kyle Mace / Chocolate Hockey)
The 8-year-old who became an internet celebrity after having a puck snatched away from him at a Pittsburgh Penguins game attended the Hershey Bears game Saturday night and completed the hat trick, getting a third puck from Bears trainer Dan “Beaker” Stuck.
Trey Dopson attended Thursday night’s Pittsburgh Penguins game between the Pens and Buffalo Sabres. Sabres head coach Dan Bylsma spotted the youngster, tossing him a puck over the glass behind the bench. Out of nowhere, an older man grabbed the puck, snatching it way from Trey.
