The speculation began months ago and now Hershey Bears veteran Chris Bourque has been officially named to the USA Olympic Hockey team for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
During Monday’s NHL Winter Classic, former Hershey Bears forward Paul Carey picked up the first goal for the New York Rangers against the Buffalo Sabres.
Carey, 29, scored a goal on a feed from Jesper Fast for his fifth goal of the season with the Rangers only four minutes into the first period. Fast found Carey wide open in the slot, who would put the puck past Robin Lehner.
Forward Nathan Walker is back on his way to Chocolate Town.
Walker returns to the Hershey Bears after starting the season in Washington with the Capitals right out of training camp. After playing only seven games with the Caps, he found himself on waivers, then claimed by Edmonton. Just two games for the Oilers would come and go before once again being played on waivers yet again and being reclaimed by Washington.
After Saturday night’s Hershey Bears and Binghamton Devils game, Devils forward Michael Latta ducked into the Bears training room to wish Hershey trainer Dan ‘Beaker’ Stuck along with other members of the Bears a Merry Christmas.
“Not many times you go into the other team’s dressing room after the game, but it’s nice to say ‘Merry Christmas’ to Beaker and the boys,” said Latta. “It’s nice to be back.”
After only two games with the Edmonton Oilers, Nathan Walker was placed on waivers on Tuesday by the club. Wednesday, he returned to the Washington Capitals organization after being reclaimed by the Caps.
As first reported by Elliotte Friedman, Walker was reclaimed by Washington, and for the time being will stay with the Capitals.
You never know who you’re going to meet at the airport. On Tuesday morning, the Hershey Bears bumped into one of the largest-selling instrumental musicians of all time, Kenny G.
Hershey was on their way to Charlotte before a two-game series starting Wednesday night against the Checkers when Mr. G and the Bears bumped into each other.
The man that build four Calder Cup teams for the Hershey Bears was honored with a spot in the Hershey Bears Hall of Fame on Saturday night at Giant Center. Doug Yingst headlined the 2017 Hershey Bears Hall of Fame Class that included former captain Dave Fenyves, goaltender Andre Gill, and supervisor of off-ice officials Randy Waybright.
“It’s a huge honor,” said Yingst. “It’s one that actually belongs to our fans. Without their support over my 34 years and the success that we all enjoyed goes to them. It’s a great honor and I’m humbled to be here and thrilled.”
Pheonix Copley and Jordan Binnington were teammates in Chicago both as prospects of the St. Louis Blues. Saturday night the two found themselves throwing punches at each other in a goalie fight.
Copley, a goalie for the Hershey Bears, fought Binnington of the Providence Bruins after a hit from behind on Kenny Agostino from Bears captain Garrett Mitchell.
Since Connor Hobbs’ injury in early November, the rookie defenseman has had a different role with the Bears during his recovery: statistician.
“Reid Cashman, our d-coach, has me doing specific stats on defensemen and stuff like that up there [in the press box,]” Hobbs said Thursday. “It keeps me into the game so I’m not just screwing around on my phone or whatever. It’s good. It’s been really good, and I’ve taken a lot away actually from the last games watching.”
