The start of the hockey season is almost here, which means it’s time for Season Ticket Holder pickup night for many teams around the country. Thursday night, the Hershey Bears held their event, which also included the annual hardest shot contest. This year, however, the combination of a malfunctioning radar gun and Stan Galiev‘s stick fracturing in half made for some pretty hilarious moments.

Hershey Bears Players Compete in ‘Dizzy Bat’ Race

Tuesday night at the Harrisburg Senators game, Bears players Julien Brouillette, Andrew Carroll, Tomas Kundratek, and Garrett Mitchell participated in a dizzy bat race. If you have never seen a dizzy bat race, it is where you set a bat on the ground, spin around it 10 times, and then run to a finish line.

Of course, it probably came easy to him with his linemate, Keith Aucoin, passing to him. Boyd Kane didn’t do quite as well but still hit two targets on eight shots. CSN Washington has videos of the two shooters.

Doc was asked to be the keynote speaker for the dinner and very humbly accepted. Earlier in his broadcasting career, Doc worked for the AHL’s Maine Mariners and had broadcast games at the Hersheypark Arena. Later he was hired as the play-by-play announcer for the Philadelphia Flyers. During his time with the Flyers (and later with the New Jersey Devils) Doc and his wife were residents of Hershey. It was during that time that he used to attend games in the Old Barn as his time would allow.
