Chris Bourque’s Olympic dream to become family affair in South Korea

In 1998, a 12-year-old Chris Bourque visited Nagano, Japan to cheer on his father in the 1998 Winter Olympic ice hockey tournament. 20 years later, a 5-year-old Kingston Bourque will cheer on his father as Chris will represent the USA in Seoul, South Korea.

Kingston spent some time with his dad before Chris’ media availability on Friday morning, skating together after the Bears first practice coming off of a holiday break.

During Monday’s NHL Winter Classic, former Hershey Bears forward Paul Carey picked up the first goal for the New York Rangers against the Buffalo Sabres.

Carey, 29, scored a goal on a feed from Jesper Fast for his fifth goal of the season with the Rangers only four minutes into the first period. Fast found Carey wide open in the slot, who would put the puck past Robin Lehner.

Forward Nathan Walker is back on his way to Chocolate Town.

Walker returns to the Hershey Bears after starting the season in Washington with the Capitals right out of training camp. After playing only seven games with the Caps, he found himself on waivers, then claimed by Edmonton. Just two games for the Oilers would come and go before once again being played on waivers yet again and being reclaimed by Washington.

After Saturday night’s Hershey Bears and Binghamton Devils game, Devils forward Michael Latta ducked into the Bears training room to wish Hershey trainer Dan ‘Beaker’ Stuck along with other members of the Bears a Merry Christmas.

“Not many times you go into the other team’s dressing room after the game, but it’s nice to say ‘Merry Christmas’ to Beaker and the boys,” said Latta. “It’s nice to be back.”

Hershey Bears Hall of Fame 2017: Doug Yingst headlines sixth class

The man that build four Calder Cup teams for the Hershey Bears was honored with a spot in the Hershey Bears Hall of Fame on Saturday night at Giant Center. Doug Yingst headlined the 2017 Hershey Bears Hall of Fame Class that included former captain Dave Fenyves, goaltender Andre Gill, and supervisor of off-ice officials Randy Waybright.

“It’s a huge honor,” said Yingst. “It’s one that actually belongs to our fans. Without their support over my 34 years and the success that we all enjoyed goes to them. It’s a great honor and I’m humbled to be here and thrilled.”
